Long-range business jets are the top of the business-jet market: large-cabin aircraft designed to fly intercontinental distances nonstop, commonly configured for roughly 8–14 passengers, often with seating that converts for rest on overnight sectors. If your travel regularly crosses oceans or continents, this is the class built for it.
Is a long-range jet right for you?
This class usually fits if:
- Your typical trips are intercontinental, or long domestic sectors you want to fly nonstop.
- You travel with larger groups, or need a cabin that supports working and resting on long flights.
- You value nonstop reach over the lower purchase and operating costs of smaller classes.
If most of your flying is regional, a Light Jet or midsize jet will usually serve you at a fraction of the ownership cost — the class should follow the mission, not the other way round.
What to consider before buying
- True mission fit. Compare the aircraft’s range against your longest regular route with your typical passenger load and reserves, not a headline figure.
- Maintenance programmes and upcoming events. On aircraft of this value, enrolment in engine and airframe maintenance programmes, and the timing of major inspections, materially affect what an aircraft is worth. Establish both early.
- Logbooks and records. Complete, verifiable records are essential at this level. Gaps in the logbooks are a pricing and airworthiness issue, not a detail.
- Crew, hangar and operating infrastructure. Long-range jets come with long-range operating requirements — crew coverage, hangar space and maintenance support at your home base. Cost the whole operation, not just the aircraft.
- Independent pre-purchase inspection. At an accredited facility, before commitment — at this class level it is not optional in any practical sense.
