Most private jets change hands pre-owned, and FlyBarter lists pre-owned aircraft from owners and authorized brokers. A used business jet is, for most buyers, the normal way into ownership — the market is largely made up of aircraft that have already flown for a previous owner.
Why buyers choose used
Buying used can offer value, availability and choice across classes: a wider selection of models and years to choose from, and aircraft available now rather than built to order. The right used aircraft is the one that fits your typical mission, at a total cost — purchase plus operation — that works for you.
The used-aircraft checks that matter
- Logbook completeness. Complete, verifiable logbooks and maintenance records are essential. Gaps in the records are a pricing and airworthiness issue, not a detail.
- Maintenance programme status. Check enrolment in engine and airframe maintenance programmes, and the timing of upcoming major inspections, before you commit.
- Damage and known-issues disclosure. Ask what damage history or known issues exist, and have them documented and priced into any offer.
- Independent pre-purchase inspection. Arrange an inspection at an accredited facility, before commitment, and verify the logbooks and maintenance status as part of it.
